This year’s series of Crimewatch Live on BBC One concluded with a positive news story from the frontline: the coming together of vocal group The Frontline Singers.
Founders James Beeny and Gina Georgio were interviewed by presenters Michelle Ackerley and Rav Wilding about the group’s journey, and Gina’s father, police officer Demetrius Georghiou was also interviewed, giving his perspective on the therapeutic benefits of singing with other frontline workers.
From doctors and nurses to paramedics and teachers, the group gave a live performance of their song ‘Strange Old World’, which was integrated with highlights from this year’s series of the programme.
‘Strange Old World’ was penned by James and Gina during the pandemic to raise funds for the NHS. The Frontline Singers have since recorded the single at Abbey Road Studios to raise funds for Frontline19, a service that offers free psychological support to those working on the frontline. The Frontline Singers were semi-finalists on Britain’s Got Talent 2022. Since then, the group have enjoyed a number of high-profile performances, including their own Christmas concert in Tunbridge Wells last year and a guest appearance at a Christmas concert held by Katie Piper OBE for her charity, where they were reunited with the charity’s patron Simon Cowell.
The group, who have become close friends, are now planning their upcoming performances, and they are continuing to spread their positive message of solidarity and community through song.
